The Basal Metabolic Rate (or Basal Rate) is the rate at which your
body burns calories while you rest.
Proponents of the Zone diet often
argue that the (Zone-recommended) 40:30:30 proportion
of calories from carbohydrates, protein and fat maintains the
body's basal rate, while diets with a higher proportion of calories
from carbohydrates tend to decrease the basal rate.
